County of Franklin issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.

Louisburg, N.C. – An upgrade to a valuable county service is coming soon.

At their meeting Tuesday, Franklin County Commissioners approved the selection of MESCO to handle site design and construction administration for a new solid waste convenience site in Youngsville.

MESCO’s selection was the result of a Request for Qualification process that allows county staff to assess the qualifications for firms who are interested in undertaking this project.

MESCO was identified as the most qualified firm.

Assistant County Manager Will Doerfer said the Youngsville Solid Waste Convenience Site is one of the most used in the county.

This project has been on the radar of county leadership for a few years with the project being added to the FY22 Capital Improvement Plan.

Potential locations were reviewed in 2021 through 2022 and commissioners conducted public hearings to approve draft site plans, zoning and a special use permit.

MESCO will continue to finalize the site design to handle the highest volume of municipal waste of any other site, increase stacking, add one-way traffic and keep residential traffic and waste haulers separate.
