Cooperative Extension will host a hands-on workshop on making pesto at the Louisburg Senior Center in Franklin Plaza, located at 279 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC. The class is scheduled for Thursday, November 6th, at 5:30 pm and costs $15 to attend.

The session aims to teach participants how to prepare both classic and creative pesto recipes. According to the organizers, “Whether a novice or an experienced cook, you’ll enjoy crafting authentic pesto recipes.” The workshop covers topics such as the art of pesto, its origins and variations, proper storage methods, and ways to use pesto in simple dishes.

Interested individuals can register online at go.ncsu.edu/learn-the-art-of-making-pesto. For further information or questions about the event, contact Franklin County Cooperative Extension representative Dominque Simon at 919-496-3344 or via email.

While community events like this are offered in Franklin County, local students continue to face challenges in college readiness based on recent ACT results. In the 2022-23 school year, only 14.9% of senior students and 13.1% of junior students in Franklin County school districts were considered ready for college in science according to state data (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/). For reading, 23.9% of seniors and 22.5% of juniors met college readiness benchmarks (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/), while math readiness was lower with just 12.7% of seniors and 10.9% of juniors meeting expectations (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/).
