The committee for the Caswell County Veterans Memorial has almost reached its fundraising goal for the "PAST, PRESENT, and FUTURE" memorial to honor all veterans.

The memorial will honor veterans who were killed in action, died in non-battle situations, lost at sea since the start of World War I and prisoners of war, according to a report in the Caswell Messenger on April 29.

These veterans will all have their names engraved on a granite wall that is black. A 10" porcelain medallion will be given out to those that have served to honor their branch in the service and will be on the bottom of the wall, the publication reported.

The veterans' committee estimates the memorial will cost $175,000, according to the publication. The amount raised to date is $138,529. To help support the project, donors can mail a check for the memorial fund to PO Box 176, Yanceyville, NC 27379-0176.

The names displayed are veterans from Caswell County. Names have been collected, starting from World War I. If community members know of veterans not listed they can contact Fred Smith at 336-514-1521.
