The Research Triangle Foundation of NC (RTF) detailed a $1.5 billion Hub RTP project that will include 44 acres dedicated to office, retail, hotel, and residential space during a virtual groundbreaking ceremony.

As part of the project, the foundation said in a late September release that 14 acres will be dedicated to an outdoor recreation spot.

Hub RTP has 55,000 employees who commute there for work, the foundation said in the release.

"This investment by the Research Triangle Foundation, Durham County and our 300+ companies propels RTP into the future to meet the expectations of employers and the talent they recruit to North Carolina." Research Triangle Foundation president and CEO Scott Levitan said in the release. "HUB RTP has been designed and programmed to be the business threshold for our region."

The foundation will work with KDC, which will be in charge of the development and infrastructure.

"Hub RTP will enhance the already impressive roster of top-tier companies within Research Triangle Park," KDC division president Larry Wilson said in the release. "With thoughtfully designed, sustainable buildings surrounded by naturally preserved greenspace, the mixed-use community will serve as a premier destination to attract and retain top talent."
