Democratic State Senator candidate Sarah Crawford has won her election bid for Senate District 18, defeating Republican opponent Larry Norman.

Crawford expressed gratitude in a statement posted on her Facebook page on Nov. 4.

“Thank you! Words cannot begin to express the gratitude I feel for each and everyone one of you.  You believed in me, believed in this campaign, and most importantly, you believed in a better North Carolina. We could not have made it this far without you and I am deeply humbled by your support.

“With your help we reached out to more than 45,000 voters over the past year, and had more than 13,000 individual donors. We worked tirelessly to hold our government accountable, and we talked about the issues that matter.

“This race was never about me. This race is and was about how our children, our schools, our families and our healthcare have been left behind or ignored by the Republican controlled General Assembly. It’s about how court case after court case politicians still chose who they represented instead of allowing voters to choose their representatives. This race has always been about ensuring that you and your family have someone representing you who will listen and will work to put our families first.

“And now, the real work begins.  I will work hard to represent you well and to make sure the values of the people of Senate District 18 are heard in Raleigh.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Thank you for all of your support, your time, your energy and your vote.”

Meanwhile, Norman took to his Facebook page to concede in the following statement:

“I would like to thank everyone who supported me throughout this campaign and voted for me in today's election. I congratulate Sarah Crawford for NC on her election as our State Senator. I wish you the best of luck in representing the people of our district in the State Senate!”
