Granville County's energy assistance program will start Tuesday, Dec. 1, officials said, but it will have some changes because of COVID-19.
The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is for low-income residents 60 years old or older and disabled persons receiving services through the state's Division of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), the Granville County Department of Social Services said in a Nov. 5 release.
As a result of COVID-19, the county said in the release that "some households will receive automated payments and will not need to apply for the LIEAP program. A payment will be automatically sent to their heating vendor."
Qualifying disabled individuals must be receiving DAAS services and receiving LIEAP payments for the fiscal 2019-2020 year as well as getting Food and Nutrition Services from the state, the report said.
Persons receiving DAAS services or are 60 years old who do not meet the above specifications may apply by telephone, mail or FAX, or drop off an application at the DAAS office from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31.
Applications for all other households will be accepted starting Jan. 1 by telephone, FAX, mail or an ePASS.
