County of Person issued the following announcement on Feb. 22.
Person County Government is pleased to announce that Adam Morris will serve as the county’s new Fire Marshal. In this role, he will lead the Fire Administration Department, including fire prevention, fire investigation, enforcement of local and state fire ordinances and codes, and serving as a liaison with volunteer fire departments and federal, state, and county agencies. After a competitive interview process, Mr. Morris was selected by a team of government and community leaders for his experience and leadership in fire services as both a volunteer and career firefighter. He holds an associate degree in criminal justice-protective services from Piedmont Community College and is currently working towards an associate degree in fire science from Fayetteville Technical Community College.
His experience includes working as a firefighter for the City of Durham Fire Department and the Roxboro Fire Department and as a part-time fire instructor for Piedmont Community College. He has volunteered with the Allensville Volunteer Fire Department since 2001, serving in various leadership roles, including training officer, deputy fire chief, and fire chief. In addition, Mr. Morris currently serves as president of the Person County Fire Chiefs Association.
Mr. Morris is a welcome addition to the leadership team of the county and will be an asset to our community and organization in this role. Mr. Morris will report to the Assistant County Manager. In announcing this appointment, Assistant County Manager Katherine Cathey said, “Adam brings leadership and experience as both a volunteer and career firefighter. He is a lifelong resident of Person County and is dedicated to this community. While serving for over two decades in fire services, he has demonstrated his strong leadership abilities along with administrative, communication, and technical skills. We look forward to having him on our team.”
The Fire Marshal position is a challenging job, but certainly one for which Mr. Morris is well prepared. In accepting his new role, Adam says, “I want to say thank you Person County for giving me this new career opportunity, and I am excited to serve the citizens of Person County and the volunteer fire departments.”
