County of Franklin issued the following announcement on Aug. 16.
Franklin County’s Board of Commissioners is seeking individuals to apply for several upcoming vacancies on its advisory committees. Service on committees is a great way for interested residents to serve their community, have a voice on issues of interest, and make a difference in the community. Individuals must be a resident of Franklin County to serve on advisory committees. Applications received by August 22 will be considered for the following vacancies:
Animal Services Advisory Board: This board will serve as an advisory board for Animal Services in order to promote and encourage responsible animal ownership through comprehensive strategic planning and other measures related to animal services. This is a recently established board and each commissioner has one nomination with each appointee's term concurrent with the term of the appointing commissioner. The board will meet at least quarterly.
Board of Health: This board sets local public health policies. Members are appointed by position. Two vacancies for an engineer and a dentist currently need to be filled. Terms are for three years. The board generally meets every other month.
Child Fatality Prevention Team: This board is governed by NC General Statute Chapter 7B Article 14 and is charged with the prevention of abuse, neglect, and death of juveniles. There are currently two vacancies for an at-large member and the parent of a child who died before age 18. Terms are for two years. The board meets quarterly.
Historic Preservation Commission: This board works to conserve and preserve the heritage of the county through documentation and regulation of historic districts or landmarks, or through the acquisition of historic properties. There are currently four vacancies for at-large members. Terms are for four years. The board meets monthly.
Tourism Development Authority: This board promotes tourism and builds a stronger economic base for the creation of job opportunities specific to tourism-related activities and endeavors. Seven of the nine members are appointed by commissioners. Three members should be affiliated with businesses actively involved in collecting the occupancy tax, four shall be persons generally involved in cultural, educational, and/or hospitality industries. There are currently two vacancies to be appointed by Commissioner Mark Speed and Commissioner David Bunn. Terms are for four years. The board meets monthly.
