County of Granville issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.

Granville County was recently awarded a total of $30,000 from the Duke Energy Foundation’s Emergency Preparedness fund.

$25,000 was awarded to the Emergency Management Department to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and to purchase supplies used to operate emergency shelters.

An additional grant of $5,000 was awarded to perform trail safety improvements at the Granville Athletic Park.

Granville County is one of twenty-four organizations in North Carolina to collectively receive $750,000 in grants from the Duke Energy Foundation this award cycle.

Granville will utilize this funding to refresh equipment and materials needed to run shelters that keep residents safe during natural disasters, purchase AEDs for numerous county facilities to enable life-saving measures in case of a cardiac event, and to ensure that the trails of the Granville Athletic Park are safe and pleasant for use by visitors of all ages and physical abilities.

“We are thankful to the Duke Energy Foundation for recognizing the importance of providing equipment for life saving measures made by possible by AEDs, supplies for our county’s emergency shelters, and trail improvements at the Granville Athletic Park,” said Assistant County Manager Korena Weichel.

“All of these projects will make a huge impact in Granville’s emergency preparedness and the safety of our citizens.”

The Duke Energy Foundation focuses grant funds on helping emergency preparedness organizations respond and recover more quickly from weather events and disasters through advanced preparation and planning.

The Duke Energy Foundation provides more than $30 million annually in philanthropic support to meet the needs of communities where Duke Energy customers live and work.

The foundation is funded by Duke Energy shareholders.
