TOWN OF WAKE FOREST: Gas leak closes portion of South Wingate Street

Town of Wake Forest issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.

UPDATE - One lane along South Wingate Street from Woodland Drive to Durham Road is open with alternating two-way traffic. Flaggers are in place to safely direct motorists through the affected area.

***UPDATE - The gas leak has been sealed, but the road closure and detour remain in effect while crews repair the damaged gas line.

Emergency personnel are on the scene of a ruptured gas line along the 200 block of South Wingate Street. The gas line was ruptured by construction crews working in the area.

Due to the ruptured gas line, traffic is blocked along South Wingate from Woodland Drive to Durham Road. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and choose an alternate route.

Dominion Energy crews are responding and will seal off the leak, but there is no timetable on when the road will reopen.

Officials are monitoring the affected area for safety considerations. No evacuations have been ordered at this time.
